Even though the parks have been closed, the animal care team at Walt Disney World is hard at work taking care of some full-time residents, including many newborns! The latest addition to the family at Disney's Animal Kingdom Lodge is Phoenix, a female Hartmann's mountain zebra foal!

Phoenix was born on May 6th and has now made her debut on the resort's Sunset Savanna. Dr. Mark Penning, Vice President of Animals, Science and Environment for Disney Parks, explained:

The name Phoenix was chosen by our team as a symbol of strength and renewal.

He also explained that the little one is already very active and spends a lot of time bonding with her mother, Peebles.

Phoenix is the fourth zebra to be born at Walt Disney World this year as a part of the Species Survival Plan program, overseen by the Association of Zoos and Aquariums. The program ensures responsible breeding and genetic diversity of thousands of animal species.
